Get back to playing sooner
Upper extremity pain, numbness, or weakness can greatly impact a musician’s ability to play their instrument. Treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries starts with a detailed discussion of each patient’s musical interests and goals. Our aim is to get patients back to playing and creating music as quickly as possible. Most upper extremity problems in musicians can be treated without surgery. For issues that do require surgery, Dr. Shulman employs cutting edge minimally invasive techniques to limit postoperative stiffness and speed recovery. Many patients bring their instruments to their appointments so our team can better understand how specific fingerings or hand positions can be improved.
Dr. Shulman is a classically trained musician who studied bassoon performance at The Juilliard School in New York City as well as music theory at Columbia University. He is also an avid pianist and guitarist. He specializes in the treatment of upper extremity injuries in musicians ranging from aspiring instrumentalists to professional players.
Musicians are a special demographic - it takes one to know one.
